I am a German volunteer in the Don Bosco Anbu Illam Saranayam Project. I am very happy to be part of this great project. Every day I am spending lots of time with the children. Saranalayam is a good place for children, sisters, volunteers and visitors. We play, eat and learn together. Through the volunteering service the children are able to learn dances, games and new vocabularies, rules and cultures. On the other hand, I am also learning a lot about the children, their stories and the Indian culture. I see Anbu Illam as a very happy, diverse and international project that enables the children to have a childhood without sorrows and I am looking forward to the next 6 months.
The future of the society, as I believe is in the hands of the rising young generations. It is in this
hope former president of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam went around the nation encouraging young
minds to becoming responsible citizens and to scale greater heights in the ladder of the society.
On my recent visits to Bosco Illam (Shelter Home for Boys) I observed the scout troop to be very
vibrant and enthusiastic. I am happy to learn that soon the scouts will be appearing for their
I wish the management all that is best in their efforts to shape the future of these deserving
children through education, sports, scouts and other curricular and co-curricular activities.
Adhering to the charism of St. John Bosco, the Father and Teacher of the
young, Don Bosco Anbu Illam (DBAI) has been reaching out to thousands of
street children, juvenile delinquents and other disadvantaged children. It is my
firm belief that every child has a future. Unfortunately, for these children, their
today is so bleak that most of them only dream of a dark future. I believe that a
vital aspect of our mission is to reach out to the poorest of the poor and
protect their rights. It is in this scenario that DBAI has been very instrumental
in envisioning a bright future for the vulnerable children in the city of Chennai
for the past 33 years! And it is no small feat! Undoubtedly, these timely
interventions have brought about significant changes in the lives of these
Young at Risk. I myself have personally witnessed their growth especially in the
Shelter Homes. It is my wish and prayer that the Almighty continue to bless
their interventions in the slum communities, schools, homes and families as
they brighten up the dreary lives of these less-fortunate children today and
give them a brighter tomorrow.
Don Bosco Anbu Illam is a hostel for boys from different, difficult backgrounds. I'm working here as a volunteer and my job is to support the staff where ever I can. I bring boys to school, teach them and I of course play with them. I really enjoy what I do here and that's because of the well behaving and just overall nice children as well as the good team around them; the openminded and generous fathers, brothers, volunteers and staff
My name is Luise Bewerunge and I work as a volunteer in Don Bosco Anbu Illam which provides a home for children of difficult backgrounds. As the name “Anbu Illam” (house of love) already says this home is not only a shelter where food, clothes, healthcare and education are provided but where love and care for the children are most important. As I live together with the children and experience their daily life I can also tell that the biggest effort is done to offer the children a valuable education. In this way they receive an access to a future full of various possibilities. Don Bosco Anbu Illam is a place where children receive next to their daily needs the chance of good education and a loving home.
